Investigation and Response
The Dominican government has formed a committee of local and international experts to investigate the Jet Set nightclub roof collapse, which occurred on April 8, killing 232 people.
Owner Antonio Espaillat, currently in Las Vegas, expressed shock and sorrow over the incident, stating he had no prior warning of structural issues and is awaiting official findings.
Structural and Safety Concerns
Espaillat revealed the nightclub had longstanding filtration problems, with the roof repeatedly repaired using plasterboard, but never inspected for structural integrity.
Despite aesthetic renovations and regular waterproofing, the building had not undergone a structural review, highlighting a significant oversight in safety practices.
