Unconventional Parenthood
A pair of male flamingos at the have successfully raised a chick, marking a first for the park. This follows their impressive display of nesting behavior with a dummy egg, leading to the introduction of a real egg.
Their journey to parenthood began when wildlife care staff noticed the duo, known by their leg band colors White 77 and White 26, collaborating to build a nest, despite being two males.
Nurturing and Care
The chick, born in late September, is being raised on a diet of crop milk, which both male flamingos can produce. This showcases the park's commitment to fostering unique parenting scenarios.
This event not only highlights the adaptability of wildlife but also the park's innovative approach to animal care, such as using a fertile egg from another pair to encourage 'double clutching'.
