Outbreak Details
health officials are investigating a salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers from 's Bedner Growers, distributed by Fresh Start Produce Sales, affecting at least 26 people across 15 states.
The cucumbers, potentially still within their shelf life, were sold between April 29 and May 19. Illnesses were reported from April 2 to April 28, with at least nine hospitalizations but no fatalities.
Health and Safety Measures
Following a similar outbreak in 2024, where over 550 people were sickened, the current investigation found matching salmonella bacteria from farm samples to those from affected individuals. Organic cucumbers are not implicated.
Consumers are advised to discard cucumbers if unsure of their source. Symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, with severe cases requiring hospitalization, especially for vulnerable populations.
