Transition to Community Notes

Meta replaces its third-party fact-checking with , a crowd-sourced initiative across , , and Threads, aiming for a less biased moderation approach by incorporating diverse perspectives.

The system, inspired by X's model, begins testing on March 18, allowing users to write and rate notes on content, with about 200,000 users already signed up as potential contributors.

Implementation and Expectations

Community Notes will not impact post visibility or reach, contrasting with the previous system where fact-checked posts were demoted. Notes are only published if contributors with differing viewpoints agree on their helpfulness.

While initially limited to the U.S. and six languages, Meta plans to expand Community Notes globally. The feature aims to reduce bias by requiring agreement among contributors with diverse viewpoints.
