Cody Balmer, 38, allegedly set fire to Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro's home using Molotov cocktails after breaking a window. He claimed he would have assaulted Shapiro with a hammer if found.
The attack occurred early Sunday morning, coinciding with the Jewish holiday of Passover. Shapiro and his family were safely evacuated by state troopers.

Balmer has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated arson, burglary, terrorism, and related offenses. He has a history of mental illness, according to his mother, and has previously faced charges for theft, forgery, and assault.
Following the arrest, Balmer was moved to SCI Waymart, a facility for psychiatric inmates. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 28.
